BRC Preparatory Clinical Research Training Fellow
Dr. Nessma Abdelhafez (MBBS MSc MRCPsych) is a Clinical Research Training Fellow in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. She is also a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry trainee at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
Her academic interests are focused on neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and its association with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related psychopathology in children and adolescents.
Nessma is currently working on a project exploring the community prevalence rates of PTSD in children and young people with ASD, and investigating the potential diagnostic overshadowing of PTSD symptoms within this population.
Through her involvement with the CAMHS Digital Lab, she aims to develop a digital assessment tool to bridge gaps in diagnosis, treatment, and early intervention. In her work, she aspires to enhance accessibility and equity in mental health services for vulnerable young people.
